So I have to admit that today I actually bought the SBD book. Don't get me wrong, I've had the book this entire time, but it was from the library, and it was very overdue. So today I went to the book store and actually bought the book for myself. I also found a great little treasure called the SBD Good Fats/Good Carbs Reference Guide! What a great little tool. Its basically like a reference manual for almost any food you can think of. It tells you the calories, fat/saturated fat, sugar and carb content for a huge list of foods and whether or not you can eat it, or should avoid it depending on the phase of the SBD your in. Very awesome....
Anyways... so today was the first day in about a week that I actually cooked an authentic SBD meal (everyone at home has been sick). Now, I thought his set back would really hurt me, but to be honest it wasen't that bad, mostly because I think that once you have the basic principals of the SBD in your head, its easier to stay diligent. Its pretty much idiot proof: no white bread, no chips, no sweets, etc! But today I cooked an actual recipe from the SBD book.
Tonight I made Chicken and Lentil Stew. mmmmm! So good. The biggest challenge is finding something I can make that my finicky toddler will eat. He's just started the "blah" and "spit" stage so I have to at least try to make something thats tasty and doesn't have too odd of a texture. That has proven to pretty much rule out anything with beans. I guess their too big to hide from the little guy, so I figured lentils were safe. And (drum role please) he loved it! Mind you I served his and my hubby's over rice, cause lets face it, lentils aren't gonna fill up a growns man who looses ten pounds for every meal he misses, and kids just love rice. But the rice wasn't really a cheat cause is was 7 grain!! Oh I am sooo sneaky!
This recipe was so easy which just proves that eating healthy and loosing weight does not require a lot of work if you know how to shop for groceries! It was also incredibly fast to make, which is such a bonus when you have a little ankle bitter running around and a hungry husband standing over your shoulder just waiting for dinner to be ready! It took 10min to prep (basically chop stuff and take out/measure all the ingredients) and about 25min to cook, which is also how long it takes to cook to rice. Thats a grand total of about 35-40min, which is pretty great. Nice... and it turned out great.
So, now would be a good time to let everyone know that I'm not much of a cook. I'm learning, and getting better everyday, but I'm not gonna lie. I'm an amateur in the truest sense. As a matter of fact, I think at least 75% of the knowledge/skills I have now I've learned in the last year! So when I say this recipe was good, its not cause of anything I did. All the credit goes to SBD. And when I say it was simple, I mean it cause I don't do complicated. I think the fact that I can make simple, tasty and healthy meals with my limited abilities is the biggest reason I love SBD. Its a lifestyle, not a diet!
